Let me explain everything about this result. I want to tell you what the rank card means and how the admission process works after you get this result. I also want to tell you what you should do next when you are a candidate.
What is Bihar ITICAT and Who Conducts It
ITICAT stands for Industrial Training Institute Competitive Admission Test. The entrance exam for ITI courses is held every year in Bihar. This exam is for people who want to learn trades like electrician and fitter and welder and mechanic and draughtsman and copa and many other ITI courses. The Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board, which is also known as BCECEB, is in charge of conducting the ITI courses exam. This board is the same body that handles BCECE for engineering and other professional course entrances in Bihar.
ITI courses are two-year or one-year vocational training programs depending on the trade. After completing an ITI, candidates become skilled tradesmen and can find work in factories, government departments, railways, defence, and private companies. They can also appear for apprenticeship programs and government exams that require ITI qualification. In Bihar, after you finish class 10, you have a lot of career options. One of the options is to join an industrial training institute. The Industrial Training Institute is a good choice because the government industrial training institutes are better than the private ones. The fees in industrial training institutes are very high. On the hand the government industrial training institutes have good facilities, and they give you a certificate that is recognized everywhere.
The ITICAT 2026 entrance exam took place on 17 May 2026. They started taking applications from 16 March 2026. The last day to apply for the ITICAT 2026 entrance exam was 14 April 2026. The Industrial Training Institute is an option to consider after class 10 in Bihar because the government Industrial Training Institutes are really good. A lot of students appeared for this exam from across Bihar, and the rank card released now will decide who gets admission in which government ITI and in which trade.

What the Rank Card Contains. Check These Details
Your ITICAT 2026 rank card will have your name, your registration number, your roll number, your date of birth, the category you belong to, the marks you scored in the entrance exam, and your rank in the list of people who passed. It will also show which district you are from and whether your rank is in the list or the list for your district.
You need to check every detail on the rank card carefully. Check that your name is spelled correctly, your date of birth is right, and your category is correct. Your marks are correct. Compare all of these details with your application to make sure they are the same. If you find anything that’s wrong, do not ignore it. You should contact BCECEB. District Merit vs Open Merit – What is the Difference
This confuses a lot of students and parents, so let me explain it clearly.
The open merit list is the overall state-level merit list. Every candidate who appeared for ITICAT 2026 is part of the open merit list. Your rank here is your position among all candidates across Bihar who gave the same exam.
The district merit list is a separate list prepared for each district. Seats in government ITIs are divided into two categories some seats are filled through the open merit list, and some are reserved for candidates who belong to that particular district. If a student belongs to, say, the Patna district, they will appear in the Patna district merit list as well as the open merit list. During counseling, you can compete for both open category seats and district category seats in your own district.
This two-list system exists to ensure that students from smaller districts are not entirely pushed out by students from districts that traditionally produce more exam toppers. It gives every district a fair share of ITI admissions for local students.
If your rank in the open list is low but your rank in the district list is decent, you still have a good shot at getting a government ITI seat in your own district. So do not get discouraged if the open rank looks high. Check your district rank too.
What Happens After the Rank Card The Counselling Process
Getting the rank card is not the finish line. It is the starting point for the actual admission process. Here is roughly how it works after result declaration:
BCECEB will announce counseling dates on their official website. Counselling for ITICAT is usually conducted online through the BCECEB portal. Candidates log in with their registration details. They can see the seats across government ITIs in Bihar. Then they fill in their trade and ITI preferences in order of priority for the government ITIs in Bihar.
Based on your rank, you get a seat allotted. If your rank is high enough, you get your first choice of trade and ITI. Lower ranks get options that higher-ranked candidates did not choose or reject during earlier rounds.
After seat allotment, you go to the allotted ITI physically for document verification. You carry your original documents class 10 marksheet and certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), domicile proof, the rank card, and other documents as specified. The ITI verifies everything and confirms your admission.
Then you pay the admission fee, and your seat is confirmed. The fee structure varies depending on trade and ITI. Check the BCECEB official notification for exact fee details.
There are usually two or three rounds of counseling. If seats are still available after the round, they have another round. So even if you do not get the college you want in the round of counseling, do not give up. Stay alert for the announcements about the round of counseling.

Documents to Keep Ready for Counselling
Start gathering these now so you are not scrambling later:
- Class 10 marksheet original and photocopy
- Class 10 passing certificate
- ITICAT 2026 rank card printed copy
- A caste certificate if you belong to SC, ST, OBC, or EBC category must be from competent authority in Bihar
- Domicile certificate of Bihar important since these are state government ITI seats
- Date of birth proof
- Passport size photographs at least 6 copies
- Aadhar card or any valid ID proof
- Transfer certificate from last attended school if required
You should keep all the documents and make at least three sets of photocopies of each one. The government admission counters usually ask for copies of these documents. It can be really frustrating if you need to make photocopies at the last minute because you do not have enough. Government admission counters are very particular about having copies of your documents.
Trades Available in Government ITIs of Bihar What Can You Choose
Bihar has government ITIs spread across most districts, and they offer a range of NCVT and SCVT-affiliated trades. Some of the common trades that seats are available in:
- Electrician: 2-year trade, very popular, good job scope in electrical companies and government departments
- Fitter: 2-year trade, widely applicable in manufacturing and industrial units
- Turner: 2-year trade, machining and lathe work
- Welder: 1 year trade, construction, fabrication and manufacturing sectors
- COPA: Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, 1 year, for computer work
- Mechanic Motor Vehicle: 2 year, automobile industry
- Draughtsman Civil and Draughtsman Mechanical: 2 year trades, engineering drawing work
- Plumber: 1 year trade, construction and civil work
- Wireman: 2-year trade, electrical wiring work
During counselling, you rank these trades and ITIs in order of preference. Your rank determines which combination you actually get. Higher rank means more choice. Read about each trade before filling preferences so you are making an informed choice and not just picking randomly.

Why ITI After 10th is a Smart Move in Bihar
I know a lot of families push students towards 11th and 12th after 10th, but honestly for many students ITI is a better practical decision. Here is why.
ITI courses are 1 to 2 years only. After completion you can start working as a skilled tradesman immediately. Companies and factories specifically hire ITI pass candidates. Government departments including railways, NTPC, BHEL, ONGC, defense, and state PWD departments all hire through ITI-qualified apprentices and regular recruitment.
After ITI and apprenticeship you can also appear for exams like RRB Technician, SSC Junior Engineer in some trades, and other technical government jobs. These are real career paths that ITI opens up.
The stipend during apprenticeship after ITI is also paid. So you are earning while training. For families in Bihar where income matters and where a student needs to contribute sooner rather than later, ITI is not a lesser choice. It is often the smarter one.
Getting into a government ITI through ITICAT is especially valuable because the training quality, infrastructure, and certification in government ITIs are generally better than private ones. And the fees are much lower. This is exactly why competition for ITICAT seats is always high.
