Okay so SBI just dropped one of the biggest bank job notifications of 2026. State Bank of India has opened 7,150 apprentice posts, and the last date to apply is 15 June 2026. The application window opened on 19 May 2026, and they have already extended the last date once, so this is the final deadline. If you are a fresh graduate sitting idle and want to get your foot inside one of India’s biggest banks, this is the one to apply for right now.
The post is SBI apprentice. One single post name, 7,150 vacancies across the country. That is a massive number, and the competition will be high, but so will the opportunities. SBI conducts this recruitment under the Apprentice Act, which means selected candidates work as apprentices in SBI branches for a fixed period and earn a stipend while learning actual banking operations on the ground. It is not a permanent job from day one, but for a fresh graduate it is one of the best ways to enter the banking sector with hands-on experience and an SBI name on your resume.
Let me give you everything dates, eligibility, fees, selection, how to apply, all of it.

Application Fee – How Much Do You Pay
- General, OBC, and EWS candidates pay Rs 300.
- SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay Rs 0. That means no fee at all for these categories.
The fee is paid online during the application process on the IBPS registration portal. Have your UPI, debit card or net banking ready before you start filling the form. Do not start the application without a working payment method because you cannot save and come back on most banking exam portals if the session times out you may have to start over.
Age Limit – Who Can Apply
Minimum age is 20 years. Maximum age is 28 years. Both are on 1 April 2026.
Age relaxation applies as per SBI’s rules for reserved category candidates. SC and ST candidates generally get 5 years of relaxation. OBC candidates get 3 years. PwBD candidates get 10 years. Check the official notification PDF for the exact relaxation details since these are subject to SBI’s own policy rather than standard government rules.
So the actual age range after relaxation goes up to 33 for OBC, 33 for SC/ST, and 38 for PwBD in most cases. Verify from the notification directly.
Vacancy and Eligibility – What Qualification Do You Need
Post Name – SBI Apprentice
Total Vacancies – 7,150 posts
Educational Qualification – A Bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university. That’s it. No specific subject, no specific percentage mentioned as a cutoff. Just a graduation degree from a recognized university.
One important thing – the degree should be completed. Students in their final year may or may not be eligible depending on the notification’s specific wording. Read the official notification carefully on this point. Generally SBI apprentice recruitment requires candidates to have passed their graduation before the application date.
Also note – the 7,150 posts are distributed across different states and union territories. You apply for a particular state based on your preference and local language knowledge since SBI branches serve customers in regional languages. The language test in the selection process is directly connected to this. More on that below.

Selection Process. Three Stages
The State Bank of India will choose people in three steps. This is what each step is about:
Written Test – This is the step. It is a test on the computer where you have to choose the answers. The test has questions about English, numbers, reasoning, general knowledge and what is happening now. The State Bank of India tells you how the test will be in the official notice. People who do well in the written test go to the step.
Language Test – This test is for people who want to be apprentices at the State Bank of India. Since apprentices work with people face to face the State Bank of India wants to make sure they can talk to people in the language. The language test sees if you can read and write in the language of the place where you are applying. If you are applying in Punjab you take the test in Punjabi. If you are applying in Maharashtra you take the test in Marathi. You have to pass this test to go on. It is not clear if the score will matter in the end.
Medical Examination – People who do well in the written test and the language test then have a check to make sure they are healthy enough for the job.
The final choice is based on how you do in all three steps. The score from the written test is the important thing when making the list of people who are chosen. The State Bank of India looks at the written test score when they make the list.
What Does an SBI Apprentice Actually Do
This is a question many people have and they should. An SBI Apprentice is not a bank employee. The State Bank of India engages graduates for a defined period usually one year under the Apprentices Act 1961.
During this period they work in SBI branches and learn how SBI banking operations work. Think of it as job training with a stipend. An SBI Apprentice handles tasks like customer service at the counter. They help with account opening and passbook printing. They assist customers with forms. Do basic back-office work. They learn how each SBI department in a branch functions.
The SBI apprentice stipend is typically around fifteen thousand rupees per month. You should check the current SBI notification since it can vary. After the SBI apprenticeship period ends, candidates get a certificate of completion. This SBI certificate is. Adds value when applying for future SBI banking jobs or other government roles. Many SBI apprentice pass-outs have used this SBI experience for banking exams. They clear IBPS PO, SBI PO, IBPS Clerk, and other banking exams in years. SBI apprentices use this experience as a stone to get SBI jobs.

Why This Recruitment Matters for Fresh Graduates
7,150 posts in one go from State Bank of India is not something that happens every few months. The last SBI Apprentice recruitment before this was also highly competitive because the opportunity is genuinely good for fresh graduates.
If you just completed graduation and do not have a job yet, this gives you a year of structured banking experience with a monthly stipend in one of the most respected financial institutions in the country. The experience you get working in an actual SBI branch dealing with customers, learning banking software, and understanding how transactions, loans, deposits, and day-to-day branch operations work is practical knowledge that no classroom gives you.
For candidates preparing for banking exams like IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO or SBI Clerk, doing an SBI apprenticeship while continuing your preparation is actually a very smart move. You learn the banking environment from the inside, you earn a stipend to support yourself during preparation, and you come out with something solid on your resume regardless of what happens next.
The application fee for most candidates is just Rs 300. For SC and ST candidates it is free. The investment to apply is minimal. The potential return of one year of real banking experience plus a chance to crack the written exam and get selected is well worth it.
State-Wise Distribution of Posts
The 7,150 total vacancies are divided across states and union territories. When you apply, you select the state you want to work in. This matters because
One: the language test will be in that state’s official language. If you are not comfortable in that language, pick a state where you are.
Two: your posting will be in that state. So pick somewhere you can actually travel to and stay for a year.
Three: Local candidates generally have an advantage in language tests for their home state. Apply for your home state unless you have a strong reason not to.
The official notification PDF has the exact state-wise vacancy breakdown. Check that before applying.
