Okay so Assam University Silchar just announced a big faculty recruitment this year. 123 posts. That number caught my attention because central university faculty openings at this scale don’t come around too often, especially in the Northeast.
The official notification number is 2/2026, dated 26th May 2026. Applications started from June, and you can apply right up to 10th July 2026. There is still time to apply for the professor and other posts. The time is limited for the professor and other posts.
The university is hiring for three types of posts. The professor post, the associate professor post, and the assistant professor post. The professor and other posts are available at the Silchar campus and the Diphu campus, so the professor and other posts can be applied for at these two campuses. Now I will tell you what you need to know about the professor and other posts.
Dates You Should Have Saved Already
| What | When |

| Fee Payment Deadline | 10 July 2026 |
| Exam Date | Not announced yet |
| Admit Card | Before exam |

July 10 is the cutoff for both the form and the fee. Don’t treat them as separate things both have to be done before that date. The portal closes, and there’s no extension usually.
Application Fee
Nothing complicated here.
General, OBC, EWS candidates – Rs. 1,000
SC, ST, PwD, Women candidates – Rs. 500
The fee is paid online during the application process itself.
Posts and Vacancies – What’s Available
| Post | Campus | Number of Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Professor | Silchar | 17 |
| Professor | Diphu Campus | 4 |
| Associate Professor | Silchar | 22 |
| Associate Professor | Diphu Campus | 4 |
| Assistant Professor | Silchar | 65+ |
| Assistant Professor | Diphu Campus | 7 |
The bulk of the openings, more than half, are at the assistant professor level. That makes sense given how universities typically operate. Senior positions are fewer, junior faculty positions are always more.
The department-wise vacancy list is in the official notification PDF. Go to aus.ac.in and download it. Every subject isn’t available for every post, so checking that before filling the form makes sense.
Eligibility – Let’s Be Straight About This
For Professor Posts
You need a Ph.D. in the subject you’re applying for. That’s non-negotiable. Then comes the experience part minimum 10 years of teaching or research in universities, colleges, or recognized research institutions. Those 10 years have to be after your Ph.D., not before or during it. Plus your API score needs to match UGC norms. If you’re not familiar with academic performance indicators, look them up separately it’s a scoring system UGC uses to evaluate faculty work.
Honestly, the professor bar is high. Ten post-doctoral years is a serious requirement.
For Associate Professor Posts
A Ph.D. is again required. Your experience here is 8 years, but the time you spent doing your Ph.D. doesn’t count. So if your Ph.D. took 4 years and you’ve been working for 10 years since, you have 10 years of eligible experience. API score as per UGC norms applies here too.
For Assistant Professor Posts
Master’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks. You also need to have cleared NET, SLET, or SET. That’s the standard route. There’s an alternative if you have a Ph.D. that was awarded under the UGC Minimum Standards and Procedures Regulations 2009, it counts in place of NET/SLET/SET.
One thing people miss is that “good academic record” usually means they look beyond just your master’s percentage. Undergraduate performance sometimes factors in during shortlisting. The official notification from Assam University will clarify their specific definition. Worth reading carefully.
Salary – Central University Scale, 7th CPC
Central university pay is generally better than state university equivalents. Here’s what each level gets:
| Post | Pay Level | Salary Range |
|---|---|---|
| Professor | Level 14 | Rs. 1,44,200 to Rs. 2,18,200 |
| Associate Professor | Level 13A | Rs. 1,31,400 to Rs. 2,17,100 |
| Assistant Professor | Level 10 | Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 |
On top of the basic salary, central university employees get Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other standard government perks. For assistant professors especially, Rs. 57,700 starting with full DA on top is a decent package, better than a lot of private college positions.
Selection Process
Five stages, and all of them matter:
Screening – First, they go through all the applications and filter based on basic eligibility. A lot of people get eliminated here because their API scores don’t add up or their experience doesn’t match.
Shortlisting – From the screened applications, a shortlist gets made based on academic credentials, experience, publications, and overall profile.
Call Letters – Shortlisted candidates get called. No call letter means you didn’t make the cut at that stage.
Interview – This is the main round. A selection committee interviews you. For Professor and Associate Professor posts, this committee is usually quite rigorous. They know the subject.
Final Appointment – After the interview, selected candidates go through document verification. An appointment letter follows.
No written exam for teaching posts. The interview is what decides it.
How to Fill the Application Form
The application is fully online. The portal is curec.samarth.ac.in that’s where you register and fill everything.
Go to that website, create an account, and look for the Assam University Recruitment 2026 listing. Open the form for the job you want. Fill in your details first. Then enter your background. You have to enter your qualification details, such as your marks, the year you passed, and the name of your university when filling out the form for Assam University Recruitment 2026.
After that comes the experience section. Teaching experience, research experience, and publications fill whatever is applicable. API score calculation might be needed here depending on the post.
You need to upload your documents. This is what you usually have to upload. Your photo, your signature, your degree certificates, your experience certificates, your NET or Ph.D. certificate, and your caste certificate if you need them. You should check the notification to see the exact list of documents that you have to upload.
Pay the fee online. Keep the receipt.
Submit the form. Download and print the confirmation page. You’ll need it later.
One thing read the notification PDF at aus.ac.in before you even open the form. Not a summary, not a blog post, the actual PDF. It has the full department list, the API score table, and the exact document checklist. Half the problems people face during shortlisting are because they filled something wrong that contradicted the notification.
A Little About Assam University
Assam University was set up in 1994 through an Act of Parliament. It’s in Silchar, Assam’s second-largest city, in the Barak Valley region. There’s also a campus at Diphu in the Karbi Anglong district.
Being a central university means it’s funded by the union government, not the state government. Pay scales, promotion policies, and service conditions all follow UGC and central government rules. It’s a proper central government job.
The student profile at this place is mostly made up of people from Assam and the northeast region, including places like Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya. Teaching here is really different from what you would experience at universities in cities. If you want to work in the Northeast and be a part of the scene in that region, then this is a great chance for you to do that. The northeast region is a place, and this is a serious opportunity to contribute to academics in the northeast region.

Faculty jobs at a central university don’t stay open long in terms of how fast time passes. July 10 feels far, but it isn’t. June is nearly half done. If your profile fits even one of these posts, start preparing your documents now. API scores take time to calculate properly. Experience certificates sometimes take days to get issued. Getting those ready in advance just makes the whole process smoother.
123 posts is a real number. Don’t miss it over a paperwork delay.
